To me, diversity in clinical trials is important for creating a world where everyone can be heard. As a female suffering from a male-dominant sleep disorder, I have first-hand experience of the difference that a diversified clinical trial can make in a person’s life. While I may be the minority group of those who have a sleep apnea diagnosis, I have been able to receive personalized care because of the advanced studies of this disorder. I have been lucky enough to benefit from the outcomes of clinical trials, and making sure these benefits reach every corner of our diverse population is important for bettering our society as a whole. No one group should have to suffer because of lack of representation, especially when it comes to medical care. Clinical trials change lives for the better, and we should all be advocating for those who cannot be heard.
